INNERVIEW: TYRESE SYDONNA
From a young age, Terese displayed a passion for clothes. She would make outfits for her Barbie dolls using a handheld sewing machine her grandmother gifted her. Her interest in fashion evolved, and eventually, she began experimenting and making clothes for herself.
Terese's family immigrated from Jamaica when Terese was seven years old. They wanted her to pursue the security of a traditional career, but Terese's heart leaned towards fashion design. She compromised with her family in college and pursued an economics degree at Lafayette College as a Posse Scholar. It wasn't long before Terese's calling for design had her knocking on the door of the head of the Art Department at Lafayette. With his guidance, she was able to double major in economics and studio art.
Upon graduation, Terese worked in finance and on the corporate side of brands like Lord and Taylor, Martha Steward, and French Connection, but Terese did not feel the same sense of happiness while working in corporate that she felt when she was designing; when she was being creative. She decided to listen to her inner longing and to pursue a fashion design degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
While she worked a full-time job, Terese would design at night, sometimes until the wee hours of the morning. She knew her time to pursue her passion full-time was nearing and when her intuition got loud enough that she could not resist, she launched her business.
